Our 2024 Impact

We are growing transformative power for a Minnesota where all women, girls, and gender-expansive people have what they need to thrive.

From Our President & CEO

In the last year, we celebrated our 40th anniversary as the first statewide women’s foundation in the country and the only organization in the state dedicated to transforming futures for women, girls, and gender-expansive people.

We issued our first Rest Up Awards to leaders from 40 organizations as a launching pad to future investments in Holistic Well-being & Reproductive Justice. Then, we began creating the Reproductive Freedom Fund, the first endowed fund in the state focused on ensuring we all have access to the care we need — now and in perpetuity.

Our commitment to multiyear funding means that we renewed grants to our girlsBEST (Building Economic Success Together) and Safety partners. We also made seed grants to support planning so that new and emerging partners can grow and thrive.

Over the last fiscal year, our investment portfolio grew 18.44%, and we converted our $27 million in endowment investments to align with our mission for gender and racial justice. Program Related Investments (PRIs) extend our economic impact, and our five PRI partners made 132 loans and lines of credit to increase access to capital for women and family-owned businesses—including childcare providers, beauty shops, restaurants, nonprofits serving primarily women and girls, as well as access to affordable housing.

Centering and engaging those most impacted by barriers is the only way to create long-term solutions.
As a statewide community foundation, we are committed to collaborating with others to end systemic inequities and drive innovation for gender and racial justice.

Our Impact by Area

WFM is responsive to the needs of communities who tell us where they need support so our impact is scalable, flexible, and nimble to community issues. Using all levers of our work, we impact four core areas of community issues.

Leadership & Community Power

We know that young women are leading today, and we’ve seen how early investments in their leadership lead to lasting change and pave the way for even greater investments.

Economic Justice

This year, we increased our We Thrive grantmaking to four colleges supporting women’s entry into high-wage, high-demand fields and expanded the program to reach budding entrepreneurs.

Safety

Our investments in research and policy come together at the Capitol, where we successfully advocated for a $4 million increase for the
Safe Harbor program.

Holistic Well-being &
Reproductive Justice

We invest in well-being of the mind, body, and spirit so that communities are whole, healthy, and sustainable.

Program Related Investments

Communities through PRIs to build community power by investing in the economic success of women, girls, and women entrepreneurs, while maximizing our endowment for greater community impact. WFM’s $1 million investment in PRIs has leveraged more than $10 million. Lending capital increases access to funding for women and family-owned businesses, affordable housing, childcare centers, and financial trainings.
