Vision Statement: Women will enjoy equal influence at all levels of government bringing new perspectives and expertise that advance equality and justice.

Outcomes:
  • More women running for office.
  • More women voting.
  • More women elected to office.
  • More self-confidence by women in their qualifications and liklihood of success.
  • Greater leveraging of resources for women candidates, e.g. money, childcare, training.
  • Increased percentage of women chairing legislative committees.
  • Increased percentage of composition of women on legislative committees.
  • Increased percentage of women of color running, voting and being elected to office.
  • Demographics of gender and race would be tracked at all levels of government.
Fast Facts
  • Seventy women now serve in the 2007 Minnesota legislature, a gain of seven seats from the 2006 session. This is an historic high (34.8%).
  • In the Nov. 2006 elections, Minnesota elected its first woman U.S. senator, Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
  • Minnesota has never elected a woman governor.
  • Of 457 county commissioners in Minnesota, 52 (11.4%) are women.
  • No woman of color has ever served in Minnesota’s congressional delegation or in a statewide elected office.
