2008 Grantees

Ripley Memorial Foundation provided funding to the following agencies and programs in 2008:

THE BIRDS AND BEES PROJECT ($3,500)
This project aims to reduce the unplanned pregnancy rate and empower youth in the Powderhorn Park area of Minneapolis by providing youth ages 12-15 with comprehensive sex education and access to reproductive and sexual health resources specific to their community.

CENTRO ($8,000)
Centro's Raices Latino Teen Pregnancy Prevention program aims to reduce the likelihood of pregnancy among high risk Latina teens in Minneapolis.

DIVISION OF INDIAN WORK ($5,000)
Funds will be used to develop the appropriate evaluation instruments and implement a more in depth evaluation plan for the Youth Leadership Development Program Teen Pregnancy Prevention Project.

EMPLOYMENT ACTION CENTER ($8,000)
Funding is for the Bright Futures program, a comprehensive integrated school and community based service for at-risk adolescents who are parenting or pregnant and out of school.

GIRL SCOUTS OF MINNESOTA AND WISCONSIN RIVER VALLEYS ($5,000)
The funds will be used to reduce teen pregnancies in St. Paul and Minneapolis through comprehensive sex education and offered as part of a leadership development program.

LAO FAMILY COMMUNITY OF MINNESOTA, INC. ($5,000)
The Young Parents program component of Kev Xaiv helps Hmong mothers complete their high school education and delay repeat pregnancies.

MIDWEST HEALTH CENTER FOR WOMEN ($5,000)
The Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Project provides services to teens that have terminated a pregnancy and seek to delay parenting through successful use of contraception.

NEIGHBORHOOD HOUSE ($5,000)
The Plain Talk program is designed to reduce teen pregnancies and contraction of sexually transmitted infections within the Hmong, Latino and African-American communities in Ramsey County.

PLANNED PARENTHOOD ($2,500)
Teen Council is an innovative youth development program designed to prevent teen pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted infections through a combination of curriculum based skills training, sustained peer education, and community service projects.

PLYMOUTH CHRISTIAN YOUTH CENTER ($8,000)
The Health and Wellness Program provides teen pregnancy prevention and reproductive health education and counseling to over 300 high risk youth in north Minneapolis.

SOUTHSIDE COMMUNITY HEALTH SERVICES ($5,000)
The funds will be used to complete the Plain Talk site in Minneapolis. Plain Talk is an intergenerational communications project that helps children and teens talk with their parents and other adults about critical issues such as teen sexuality, pregnancy and STD prevention.
