LATEST NEWS | 2008 Leadership and Legacy Luncheon

The Foundation had much to celebrate at its 2008 Leadership and Legacy Luncheon on October 2. Now in its 25th anniversary year, the Foundation -- the first statewide women's fund in the nation -- has granted over $9 million to more than 1,000 projects across the state. It was the first women’s foundation in the country to start a funding program and endowment just for girls (girlsBEST Fund), and was the first women’s foundation in the world to receive a million dollar gift. None of these accom-plishments would have been possible without the passion and vision of our founding mothers -- and in particular, Mary Lee Dayton.

It was Mary Lee who made that personal gift of
$1 million to launch the Foundation, as well as corporate and community presentations to garner broader support. Mary Lee’s passion and philanthropic leadership has inspired countless individuals to use their resources to build equality for all women and girls.

In honor of Mary Lee Dayton, the Foundation has established the Mary Lee Dayton Catalyst for Change Award. This award will be presented annually to elevate and recognize philan-thropists who have used their resources and leadership to advance gender equality in Minnesota.
